| Subject to a detailed
assessment of the institution's
requirements, James & Jamess
responsibilities usually include
most or all of the following functions:
|
| s |
Identifying
and commissioning an author,
choice being subject to the institution's
approval, unless the institution already
has an author, in which case we will
willingly work with him. Either
way we will ensure that the text meets
the requirements for the book in terms
of length, style and meeting the institution's
brief for the finished article. |
| s |
Copy-editing the text for
accuracy and consitency of style. |
| s |
Picture
research from the institution's
own sources and elsewhere, such as
specialist libraries and picture
agencies. We submit a first selection
of pictures to the client for approval,
modifying it as required to arrive
at a final, agreed choice of material. |
| s |
Should
new photography or artist's illustrations
be thought desirable by the
institution - a decision which is
normally made some way into the project
- we will direct the photographer
or artist. We can recommend a suitable
photographer or artist for the assignment,
or work with someone of the institution's
own choosing. |
| s |
Creation
of film action and sound
for the electronic format, if required.
|
| s |
Design of the book
and submission of proofs for institution
approval. |
| s |
Handling all aspects
of the printing and production
of the book, and delivery of bound
copies
in accordance with the agreed schedule.
|
Although
input from the institution is both
welcome and, at some stages, essential
(e.g. reading and approval of the
text and approval of designs and
proofs), our aim is to engage
no more of the institution's time
than is necessary.
The end result will be a
book of high quality, meeting the
institution's brief in every respect,
produced to a precise budget and
delivery date.
